Song by Virgile
(Verse 1)
There’s a girl who’s in my class
Her name’s Elizabeth
She’s got snow white skin, freckles,
Carrot curls
She doesn’t talk that much but it’s ok
She sometimes tells me stories anyway
There’s this girl who’s in my class
And she’s a bit like me
At recess, she likes walking
By herself
I think that she’s the youngest in our grade
The schoolyard can be rough, but memory fades
(Chorus)
What if I
What if I hadn’t been so scared
What if I never ever cared
What all the other children said
What if I’d given us a chance
What if I’d asked you to the dance
Maybe I’d know you now
Instead of wondering
Elizabeth
(Verse 2)
I wanted someone on my arm
That would impress my friends
Cooler, prettier and so
Mature
She’d send me notes when I was feeling blue
Now when I reminisce, I’m back with you
(Chorus)
What if I
What if I hadn’t been so scared
What if I never ever cared
What all the other children said
What if I’d given us a chance
What if I’d asked you to the dance
Maybe I’d know you now
Instead of wondering
Elizabeth
(Verse 3)
I sometimes wonder how you are
And what we could have been
I’ve looked but I can’t find you
Anywhere
I am hoping that someday we’ll meet again
My pixie girl with sunlit copper hair
(Chorus)
What if I
What if I hadn’t been so scared
What if I never ever cared
What all the other children said
What if I’d given us a chance
What if I’d asked you to the dance
Maybe I’d know you now
Instead of wondering
What if I
What if I hadn’t been so scared
What if I never ever cared
What all the other children said
And if I get another chance
Maybe I’ll take you out to dance
Maybe we’ll fall in love
Instead of wondering
Elizabeth

About Elizabeth
The song written by Virgile is about memories of a girl who was in his class for whom he had feelings, but never expressed them. Elizabeth was a shy teenage girl, very advanced in her academic course, younger than her classmates and very discrete. Virgile had the feeling that she was a bit like him, and he wanted to exchange with her, but never did. The music came while Virgile was playing along on his piano in London. Verse came first, then the chorus. Lyrics were created together with Alexandra.
